Aberdeen - Must I Go? A Flood of Questions

REVISED: The FEMA map links I provided in this article expired, so I've created a work around. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Aberdeen Township announced that people who live in designated flood zone areas are required to evacuate by noon on Saturday because of the impending visit of Hurricane Irene. The Township refers citizens to its website for further information on evacuation, but there really isn't anything useful at the site to help determine if someone lives in a flood zone and must evacuate.

Luckily, I did some research last night and a bit more this evening. FEMA has flood zone maps that designate A zones (flood zones) and X zones (non-flood zones) for particular streets. Here are two maps of the Cliffwood Beach waterfront area. They are current as of 2009 but under revision for re-release in May 2012 based on updated criteria.

FEMA map 34025C0029F  covers the area east of Greenwood Avenue.

FEMA map 34025C0028F shows the area west of Greenwood Avenue, namely Midnight Point and Lakeshore Drive.

Visit the FEMA Map Service Center website and search for the above FEMA maps using the map numbers above, or use the address search and find your own address.

Select the PAN feature to move the map around. The maps are memory hogs, so it can take a while for them to update on your screen.

  1. Thank you! I was trying to figure out if I am in a flood zone. Thank goodness, I'm not.
