Monica is entering her sophomore year at Penn State, where she majors in biology and specializes in sabre on the school's fencing team. I located a few of her other competitions online.
- She came in fifth at Cinnamison, NJ in June 2004.
- She was in Belek, Turkey in April 2007 for the Cadet/Junior World Championships, according to Fencing Channel.
- She was at the Orleans World Cup in France in February 2009.
- She was one of eleven picked to attend the Junior World Championships in Belfast, Ireland in April 2009.
- She won the Bronze in Portland, Oregon in April 2009 at the North American Cup Youth.
- She was in Tianjin, China in late May 2009 for the Senior Grand Prix in sabre.
- She attended the World Championship at Dallas in June 2009. The competition at Dallas sealed Monica's position on the sabre team going to the championships in Turkey.
Check out the Nahouw fencing site to see her meteoric rise in the statistics since February. Monica is ranked 37th in the world after competing in the World Cup in Dallas last month. She is rated third by the US Fencing Association, which should yield her a position on the US team. Monica has her eyes on the 2012 Summer Olympics. See Tim Morehouse blog for his Do or Die in Dallas post from 16 June, as well as his current post with comments and a link to the above APP article.
Check out Monica in competition with a fencer from Notre Dame in the video below.
Which one was Monica in the competition video? Right side or left?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't tell. The competition was round robin and Monica came out on top, so I'm assuming she is the one on our right. The camera is being operated by Eileen's side of the equation, so you can sometimes hear them rooting for her, but I couldn't sort it out. If someone knows, pls add a comment here.
ReplyDeleteHaha I'm actually monica. I'm on the left side. I end up winning the bout 5-3.
