History: South Carolina Decides for War, 6 April 1861

One hundred fifty years ago today, Abraham Lincoln notified South Carolina's Governor that he was sending a supply ship to deliver relief to Fort Sumter, which had been under Confederate siege for more than three months. Lincoln didn't want to deal with the Confederates, whose government he didn't recognize, but Governor Pickens had no such reservations. Uncertain of Lincoln's intentions, the Southerners spent the following week making decisions for war.
