Doctors suspect that a 17-year-old Matawan Regional High School student who died Saturday had a case of bacterial meningitis. The Monmouth County Board of Health has issued a health advisory that explains the situation and their response and provides a phone number for those who have additional questions.
UPDATE: The student is identified as Chris Dhume, of Cliffwood, a star player on the high school's soccer team. He fell ill on Thursday with flulike symptoms and died Saturday. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at Jesus the Lord RC Church in Keyport, with interment to follow at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery.
