The Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, which operates A&P, Pathmark, and other grocery stores, has filed for Chapter 11 protection from its creditors and borrowed a large sum of money to keep operating, according to the
Dow Jones Daily Bankruptcy Review at NASDAQ.
The Philadelphia Inquirer and
Businessweek provide interesting insights into the story. For now, at least, the Cliffwood A&P and Hazlet Pathmark seem to be spared from closure, but both face an uncertain future as selected store closings and the sale of parts of the company seem inevitable.
