MAMS Gets New Principal

Tyler Blackmore, current principal of Asbury Park High School, has been selected to be the new principal at Matawan Aberdeen Middle School beginning 1 July 2010, per APP. Kathy Olsen is retiring at the end of the current school year. He's done nothing with the high school's website. I hope that isn't an indicator of things not to come.

  1. Pat,

I hope you see this as blatantly wrong. For the school board to hire a new administrator after firing three dozen teachers and all of the custodians less than two weeks ago is simply appalling. I don't care if this guy is National Principal of the Year. To go out and hire someone to replace Mrs. Olsen, instead of eliminating another administrative position by attrition, is plainly inequitable in the face of terminating 80 people. What is wrong with this school board and the superintendent? can they not see this new hire as a slap in the face to everyone in this community, who undoubtedly knows someone who was fired from this district less than two weeks ago? This is unbelievable to me...

  2. I don't have enough information to be critical. The vacancy had to be filled and I presume it was done as a competitive job offering. Unless I hear otherwise, Mr Blackmore was the best candidate and was hired. You can't expect the board to hire one of the many staff being terminated simply because they are being terminated. They still have to compete for the job, right? Don't lose perspective.
