Buttonwood Crash Injures Five

The Asbury Park Press reported a Mother's Day afternoon collision between a vehicle emerging from The Buttonwood Manor and a second vehicle traveling on Route 34 in Matawan. Five people were sent to two area hospitals but initial reports were that their injuries were not life threatening.

APP detailed the ages of the teens, probably because 17 year olds generally aren't allowed to drive around town with 15 year old passengers. But just saying one vehicle was driven by a teen is enough to suggest blame. To be fair, APP should have mentioned the ages of the "women" in the second vehicle, at least the driver, especially given the average age of The Buttonwood's customers.

Aging Parents and the Elderly, which has a checklist for figuring out when to put the brakes on elderly drivers, asks, "Are elderly drivers safe? Yes — for the most part. The same can be said for teen drivers."
