Gusts and Rain of Today's Storm Continue Into the Night

Central New Jersey has been dealing with high winds, rain, and flooding all day. The weather has brought down trees and power lines, flooded roadways, brought several regional rail lines to a halt, and even closed the NJ Turnpike. Major airports in the area are suffering delays.

Lake Lefferts was overflowing onto Ravine Drive. Route 35 flooded in several spots. A small tree leaned into the road near the Matawan Avenue overpass of the Garden State Parkway. Some apartments along Beers Street in Keyport had to be evacuated by boat. Local police, fire, and rescue squads have had their hands full all day and it doesn't seem to be over yet. The Red Cross is busy, both in our backyard and throughout the region, helping persons displaced by floods and fire find housing, serving coffee to first responders, and otherwise providing support where needed.

For coverage of the storm's effect on our area, see NJ.com, MyCentralJersey, and APP. Accuweather has a good summary of the storm itself.
