Huskies and Hawks Win Big Meets This Weekend

Matawan Regional High School Boys Track and Field Team took first place in a tour de force at the Monmouth Relays held in Matawan on Saturday 2 May 2009, according to ShoreTrackCoaches. Varsity boys took high honors in the 400 m hurdles relay, distance medley relay, meter shuttle relay, 4x400 m relay, shot put relay, discus relay, pole vault relay, long jump relay and triple jump relay. Junior varsity boys came in first in 4x200 m relay. Matawan beat its nearest competitor, Christian Brothers Academy, 128-94.

Matawan Girls Track and Field Team came in second at the Relays behind Manasquan 81-88, per ShoreTrackCoaches. Varsity girls came in first place in discus and shot put relays, then collected solid points in many of the other scored events to edge out Ocean (78) and Middletown South (75).

Monmouth University won the 7th NEC Outdoor Championship on Sunday 3 May 2009, per MUHawks. MU took the top four spots in shot put, with senior Chris Keller, of Matawan, taking second place. Keller was also named to the NEC First Team and Second Team for his skills in discus and shot put, respectively. Coach Joe Compagni was named 2009 NEC Men's Coach of the Year for his achievement.
